Bio

Di Xu is an Associate Professor in the School of Education at UC, Irvine, and the faculty director of UCI’s Postsecondary Education Research & Implementation Institute. She is also a research affiliate at the Community College Research Center at Teachers College, Columbia University. Her research uses mixed research methods in assessing students’ educational pathways, success, and transition into the labor market, with a particular focus on students enrolled in community colleges.

Her recent projects focus on investigating the educational and labor market outcomes among students enrolled in non-credit workforce training programs, as well as malleable factors within the control of programs or institutions that may influence these outcomes; designing and implementing interventions to test strategies that are promising at improving student engagement in online courses; exploring how instructors hired through different employment contracts are associated with student outcomes; and evaluating statewide efforts to reform college developmental education. Xu earned her doctorate in Economics and Education from Teachers College, Columbia University in 2013.
